Our first experience….
Dad had his first stroke in 2005. I was at my condo, Mom and Dad were in Church at St. John Neumann, and they lived in my childhood home. I was having a BBQ with friends and Mom called to tell me Dad “didn’t look right”. I raced over to my parent’s home, and my Dad was at the kitchen table with his head slumped down, and he was drooling. I remember clearly calling my brother in law, Ed, who is an EMT about getting him TPA which can reduce the effects of the stroke if given in time. Dad’s HMO doctor at the time had put him on heparin, as a “prevention” to stroke. Dad had a hemmoragic stroke, and unfortunately being on heparin makes things worse when your brain is bleeding.
